Well, frumps, we have a real treat in store today for those of you who miss those zany tea-baggers and their madcap assaults on the “Seats of Power.” We have Rep. Michelle Bachmann to thank for dreaming up an impromptu “take-your-nuttiest-constituents-to-work-day.” Bachmann has invited her Tea Party pals to descend on Washington to prowl the halls of Congress and scare the bejeebers out of unsuspecting Democratic congresspersons. How awesome is that?
The Divine Rep. M got the idea last week while slithering around in the Slough of Despond, certain that Health Care Reform was going to pass any minute and end life as we know it forever and ever, amen. But as all true Americans know, “when the going gets tough, the tough get going” and what better antidote to a late autumn legislative depression than to throw a big fat party and invite all of your friends, to march and sing and tweet the day away.
Bachmann’s calling this shindig something different every day but, so far, it’s mostly going by “Operation House Call” or the “Super Bowl of Freedom” – take your pick. As late as this morning the Bachmann-alia still seemed to be a work in progress. All of the associated week-long events take up a full web page of nested lists called a “Tea Party Patriots Weekly To Do List – For Week of November 2nd, 2009” showing different activities kicking off every 15 minutes or so.
Best Laid Plans
Evidently some of this stuff has already gone down without notice, but it looks like today is the “Big Day.” Although Commander Bachmann had called for a crippling onslaught of cards, letters, faxes and phone calls from her legions of flying monkeys, congressional aides reported nothing out of the ordinary, earlier this week.
Last weekend when the initial response appeared to be underwhelming, the usual Astroturf Transportation Authority ponied up some buses to give the troops a free ride to the capital. Nevertheless, organizers are still under the impression that the “912 March Millions” are poised to re-materialize on the Mall once again. This time, though, the lathered up organizers are taking no chances that their numbers will be low-balled by the mainstream media. They’ve come up with no end of clever methods to prove that they were a) really there and b) that their numbers are legion.
The point of all this is framed in what has become Bachmann’s signature violent imagery. She’s calling it a showdown at “High Noon,” and asking her cult to get in the “enemy’s” faces until they can see the “whites of their eyes” and demand that “they get their hands off our health care.” [Clearly Bachmann is referring to her followers’ “health care” since her own is more than likely the Congressional Super Duper Coverage]. I wouldn’t be surprised if there were not some ceremonial wrist-slashing when Michelle invites her generals to her “chamber” for a little celebratory tea party.
Que Sera, Sera
Here’s a “heads up” on today’s events from our friends at ResistNet (of course the original is in 36 point type with lots of italics, caps and color):

Thursday we are calling for an all out BLITZ to Kill the Bill! On Thursday: Goal- 1 Million Citizen Contacts coinciding with Rep. Michelle Bachmann’s call to join her in walking the halls of Congress and make sure the voice of citizens is heard. ”

Last Night was the big Conference Call to herd these grassroots cats into some semblance of a movement and tip off the Blogosphere since the New York Times and Washington Post were so wrapped up in real news that they declined to cover Michelle’s “revolution launch.” Politico carried some of the tasty tidbits from that event:
“In a conference call Wednesday night with bloggers and activists for the advocacy group Americans for Prosperity, Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-Minn.) called on protesters to “scare” members of Congress into killing the proposed health care reform bill.”
“If the protesters succeed in scaring lawmakers, Bachmann said that it could cripple efforts to restructure health care for a decade.”
“Nothing scares members of Congress more than freedom-loving Americans,” Bachmann said.
“She said that members were frightened by the August town hall meetings, but “then they came back to Washington, and they got back in the bubble and Speaker Pelosi put the hammer down on the Democrats.”
“Bachmann reasserted a claim that Pelosi was considering tightening security in preparation for the activists, which she warned “would be a huge mistake.”
“Bachmann declined to answer a question on the conference call about the news that her chief of staff, Michelle Marston, was resigning. (Huffington Post covered that story, yesterday, with this tagline: “When the Captain’s Crazy, It’s Time to Find a New Ship.)”
So, frumps, I’m going to scour the world of news coverage and try to find out if Mad Michelle & Co. have Nancy Pelosi holed up in a Congressional broom closet – wish me luck.

Thank you for putting words to this madness. I was speechless.
Sadly, one our our NC reps (possibly our looniest–Virginia Foxx, a Blue Dog Democrat) was standing behind her at her "press conference," as she referred to that Meeting of the Mindless.
You'd think "the government" they refer to was some evil country. It's the same government that they're a part of, that pays their salaries.

You know what, Marylee? You have a way of cutting through the crap, to the heart of the matter, that I really envy. This statement just tickled me: \”You'd think \”the government\” they refer to was some evil country. It's the same government that they're a part of, that pays their salaries.\” That is right smack on the money.
I also enjoyed the \”meeting of the mindless.\” My condolences about Virginia Foxx . . . The good news, that just came buzzing down the wires, is that evidently the good people of Minnesota are mortified by Bachmann's antics and are doing their best to arrange an early retirement for her. She's due for a re-up next year and the MN GOP are so worried that the seat will go to a Democrat that they've found not one, but two primary challengers to put up against her. (That'll free her up for a Palin cabinet position . . . ). Hang in there, ML, this is bound to get better.
