Well, frumps, I recently became aware of a . . . shall we say . . . rather unusual Internet resource called Obituarieshelp.org. Though I didn’t have any pressing needs in that department, I was pulled in by the concept and decided to poke around and see what ObituariesHelp was all about.
In a nutshell, OH is a very comprehensive and well-organized resource to help us all get through some of life’s most unpleasant tasks i.e., writing obituaries, preparing eulogies and funeral programs, and extending personal condolences when Hallmark just doesn’t cut it. There’s even a helpful section on genealogies and family tree creation, subjects that often come up around the passing of loved ones. I know that firsthand.
The person who put together this useful site did so because she, herself, was called on to prepare some of these funereal items when her own father was sick and apparently dying. As any one of us could guess, it was the last thing on earth she wanted to be doing at the time, but it was necessary and would serve to honor her dying father.
She went to the Internet for help and found a very frustrating dearth of resources to get her through her awful task. Let’s face it – death, dying, funerals and obituaries are not exactly “trending topics” on the web. Which is interesting, in itself, because it’s the ONE topic that we all, globally, have in common.
The good news is that our Webmaster’s father pulled through and is still with us. And his daughter decided that if she could help others in the same predicament, she would pay her family’s good fortune forward. She has done an excellent job and earned a Frumptastic thumbs-up for a job well done. The site is divided up into sections and loaded with samples, examples and readings that can be used – there’s even a free template for creating a Funeral Program.
I urge you all to check it out, bookmark it for a rainy day, and pass on the link to friends and family who will, no doubt, thank you for the tip someday.
