Carpe diem, frumps, carpe diem.

Frumps on leave.

Frumps on leave.

Well, my dears, it’s been quite a month for frumps what with Susan Boyle, the Scottish Nightingale, stepping up to center stage and legitimizing frumps everywhere.   Seemed to me to be the perfect time to launch The Frump Gazette, a compendium of socio-political commentary for and about frumps.

Before  I go further, let me go on record as stating that there is nothing at all pejorative implied in my use of the word “frump.”  I am a frump, a proud one; why, some of my best friends are frumps.

The operative definition of ”frump” for this gazette is as follows:  a stand-up woman “of a certain age” who has learned, and embodies, that most important of  truisms – that books shouldn’t be judged by their covers.  That, attempting to duplicate Madison Avenue’s notions of attractiveness in order to bag a member of either sex is, most often, a colossal waste of time. Moreover such efforts, more often than not, land one with a brand of attention that wasn’t especially desired in the first place.   Frumps who choose to do an end-run around the prevailing notions of what a “woman” is and isn’t, are free to bring their innate reserves of intelligence, caring, intuition and fairness to the game which makes for vastly better sport.

Actuarially speaking, we frumps are becoming legion.  Our interests, concerns, needs and, dare I add – desires – are becoming increasingly important because they are increasingly influencing the marketplace – the seat of all real social power.

I invite you to join me here often for news, commentary, stories, humor, rumors  and networking for and about frumps.  This is your Frump Gazette so feel free to contribute, comment, debate, shake your fist and type in bold caps - whatever blows your frumpy little skirt up.

Cheers, ladies.
